Why We Need to Pray
January 4th, 2010
God is all-powerful, all-present and all-knowing. We are the opposite.
We are limited in our strength (we are either strong or weak in different areas), our presence (we can only be in one place at one time) and our knowledge (we are constantly in need of learning).
When we see God as He is and we see ourselves as we are, this should cause us to lean on Him. This is called dependence. This is what God wants of us, to depend on Him fully.
The chief means that we show our reliance upon the Lord is through prayer. The more we find ourselves in prayer, the more we demonstrate our dependence upon God. This is the meaning of the Bible verse 1 Thessalonians 5:17 ‘Pray without ceasing’. It’s about depending upon God all the time through prayer.
Our failure to pray without ceasing reveals our partial dependence upon God. For this reason we cap God’s greater work in our lives.
My challenge, and the theme for Metropolitan Baptist Church in 2010, is that we not only understand what it means to pray without ceasing but we practice this biblical discipline.
Why not join us in 2010 as we learn how to pray effectively and fervently by ‘praying without ceasing’.
